What Is The Purpose Of An Electric Fireplace?
How would someone keep warm if they had a power outage in the fall or winter and weren’t able to use it?
Or is it intended mainly for condos and apartments where a regular chimney is not practical?

Mainly used for ambience.

I don’t know about electric, but we have a gas log. It puts out some heat, but doesn’t use wood, just a fake log, so it does not require as much maintenance and is not as messy as a real fire. Plus, a lot safer. I’m in Texas, and while most homes have a fireplace for ambiance, we don’t have a whole lot of need for heating.

It is mostly for decorative purposes and ambience on those cold romatic nights.

While an electric fireplace might not keep you comfortable warm on a cold winter night it does have the “ahhhhhh” factor. It is relaxing to watch the changing pattern of light while drinking a mug of mulled cider or hot cocoa. If you are spending that time w/ someone you love it is a lovely way to bond more closely, a perfect time to communicate and ah…. well who knows where all that might lead….
