Buying Electric Fireplaces

What Is The Best Air Freshener Or Deodorizer To Control The Odor While Burning Wood?

Our home is all electric, but we have two wood burning fireplaces that we use to heat during the winter, otherwise we could not afford the electric bill. However due to burning daily, our clothes and home always smell like a campfire. Anyone found an effective way to counter that odor in the home?

a friend of mine had potpourri and gel balls in every room..she also had wall deodorizers and her house smelled of flowers…and her clothes smell fresh all the time
My sister in law kept a humidifier going with fragrances in it…and she had two walk in fireplaces burning all the time
There is also the wax that you put in the small crock pot looking things and they usually have a pleasant smell as well .
Fabreze makes a good spray for furniture and drapes and I find cachet for closets and drawers is wonderful for clothes.
PS if you have a cover over your flue the rain will not fall to the fire…that is where the nasty smell comes from…..jump on the roof and put a tin canopy on it.

That smell like the heat has to permeate your home to be effective, and other than have a good control on the smoke exhausting there is not much you can do. That smell is a natural one compared to the humm of hairsprays ,deods, etc. anyhow, and ppl. are defused by it,so shake your touche at them and ask them not to be jealous. Seriously just look into your chimney’s exhaust and/or your habits of handling the chimney keys .I have a wood burner at my cabin and have to be careful in opening the door only after opening the chimney key first for a few seconds. Now put another log on the fire , get him to pour you up some coffee ,then get you some bacon and some beans.—Hey the beans are not the problem, are they.-lol.

I have to say that I agree with everything here, but the unfortunate thing is, is that all the room deodorizers are just going to mask most of the smell. Once you leave the house, you’re still going to smell the wood smoke on your clothes & hair :( Debbie is right about running a humidifier. It will help keep moisture in the air and help reduce URI’s because of the allergens. You can also try using “Ozium”, it will help neutralize the odor but make sure you don’t breath it directly. It comes in a spray can. Sorry, I wish I could be of more help.

Are you getting a down draft into the room? You may need to have the chimney cleaned. It may not be drawing the smoke up the chimney as it should because of the buildup of creosote. I would get a professional to come look at it. A chimney that is working properly should not be smelling up your house or clothes.

If it’s burning right you shouldn’t have a problem with the smell of smoke.
Are you burning dried wood or fresh cut ? Is it burning cleanly or does it tend to smolder?

Burn a little Cedar or other fragrant wood occasionally to give off a more pleasant smell.

You can wash your clothes with strong smelling detergent and use a lot of drier sheets.
