But specifically I prefer a gas fireplace for the efficiency they provide. Second choice would be an electric heat pump. A woodburning fireplace is by far the least efficient way to heat a house. They're better for setting a romantic mood but I'll settle for the gas fireplace. Floor furnaces have burned many people and pose liability issues most builders want to avoid.
