We’d Like To Switch Our Lp Gas Furnace To Electric… Your Thoughts?
We have a 2 year old Whirlpool gas furnace and would like to replace it with an electric furnace. The only thing we use gas heat for is our water heater, fireplace, and general heat. All other appliances are electric. How costly would that be to do on a new home, unfinished basement, & What should we consider before making the switch?
Also- we want to switch sources due to what we consider unreasonable gas bills. We live in Missouri & heat our home full blast probably at most 6 months a year. This year we already have paid $2400 and from May to February. Does this seem out of the norm to anyone else? Especially when 3 of those months we used almost NO gas whatsoever?
Any input would help! Thanks!

I think you need a new furnace, check with the electric company to see if you can get any tax credits or discounts through them, I had my gas shut off and use electric space heaters, I heated the house for half of what I would have paid in gas, mainly because they have been deregulated and can charge what ever they want now, our gas doubled and then some, in fact they shut peoples gas off for being late(even a week) so they can get disconnect fees($75.00) reconnect fee($75.00) and very large deposit and pay off the rest of the bill and pay an estimated bill all up front before they turn it back on, almost $1000.00 for gas you haven’t even used, I think it is a crime, but nobody can do anything about it but change to electric. and gas is the most plentiful and cheapest resource we have but the people who control it is gouging the heck out of us just for more profits.maybe check with the dept of energy to see if you can get a rebate for an energy efficient models.
