Is this some kind of euphemism? If so, and I understand the meaning, all I can say is that it is difficult to see the fireplace when you are poking the fire. Of course, if you were blowing the fire, you would have your face deep in the fireplace. It takes a real man to blow the fire, though.

Well I have a coal fire here and when am poking it do look at it or else could burn my hand…….Sadly it hasn’t been lit for a while, too hot no need for it yet……..once I lite it once will want it lit every nite, you know how it is……….nothing nice than an open fire, love just sitting starring into the flames……….ooooops was nearly drifting off there……..
