A wood burning fireplace is going to be more of a cosmetic addition to your new home and wont be a good secondary source of heating. It will add to the aesthetic value of the home and increase your market value by a small amount.
I had a WBFP in my last home which was only 1100 square feet. It kept the living room nice and warm but the temperature dropped dramatically in the rest of the home.
