Buying Electric Fireplaces

Marble Type Fireplace Hearth?

We want to take away section of fireplace. The hearth doesn’t actually seem marble but I think the name for it is Conglomorit – haven’t a clue how it should be spelt. Does anyone know if this in reinforced internally with anything? Is electric cutting disc only way of cutting this?

Not sure if conglomerate is what you are thinking it is. I did a quick web search and this will tell you what it’s made of…http://www.answers.com/topic/conglomerat…

If it is conglomerate, you can cut it with a diamond blade, it should be cooled while doing it so may be better taken to a stone/marble yard, also, they have runners on the edges and underneath which need to be stuck back on using resin glue, the regulations for hearths are actually 15″ from back to front, 13mm thick, raised to 50mm high, the width is dependent on the fire manufacturers instructions.

well depends on how much you want to remove.code requires that the hearth be 18″from the fireplace,or 18″deep.you can demo the whole thing and install a new hearth.u also can use a grinder with a cut off wheel or if its stone i recommend a diamond blade.
