Buying Electric Fireplaces

If You Have No Fireplace/mantle, What Else Can Be The Focal Point In A Tiny Living Room? Do I Even Need One?

(This a tiny, 2 bedroom, 2 floor condo.)
Layout: As soon as you walk in through the front door, you are already IN the living room. Directly in front of you are the stairs leading up, and also in front of you (but to the right) is the living room, followed closely by a TINY dining room. The dining room then goes into an EXTREMELY tiny kitchen.
Anyway, we have no fireplace/mantle, and we really don’t have the money to buy one of those electric fireplaces or whatever they are. (Although they are pretty cool!)
Anyway, I am decorating the place but I was wondering what exactly would be the “focal point” of the living room; it seems to me that all good interior designers say that having a strong focal point is key. There is a large window on the same wall as the front door, but our huge sectional is in front of it. I really don’t feel it is a focal point. The only semi-interesting area is the little “nook” by the stairs, but my bf’s huge t.v. is there. Any ideas on focal points?

Add a coffee table in front of the sofa and use it to display interesting items, a vase of fresh flowers, etc. A glass coffee table will keep the space “open”. Create visual impact by xeroxing favorite photos in black and white. Frame and hang for your own personal gallery. Drape a beautiful blanket over the couch and add coordinating throw pillows as accents. All of these require no long-term commitment, are easy to change and update, and all will create an interesting focal point. If you are feeling brave, try painting one wall in a bold or deep color. Accent walls are very current and dramatically change the look and feel of a room. I highly recommend the book “Home Rules” by Nate Berkus (and no, I have absolutely no affiliation with Nate or the publisher!) The book has tons of simple yet impactful ideas for every room in your house. There is even a chapter called “Small Spaces” which I bet would help inspire you!

well i think you need to first give the living the the feeling of space, and second you focal point currnetly from my way of think its the tv and the stairs.
I wouldnt concider turning the room around and make th window more of a main feature, especially if the veiw outside is good- i.e a wood, back garden ..

Find an old camelback trunk at a flea market and hang a tapestry on the wall above it. Very shabby chic!

Try adding shelves with accessories that match the theme you are using in the living room.A large mirror.signs.

If you want to expand the look of your room and you can’t afford the electric fireplace that is standard size sold at meijer sores in Michigan. for 200 dollars in a cedar wood which my husband would like to paint it a shiney black really slick to go under the large screen tv. The heatins system is very weak. but it it very pretty to look at…
Anyway may i suggest some kind of mirror centered in the middle of the wall to replace the idea of a warm looking fireplace. The more mirror the bigger the room appears. I love the look of people thinking there is a whole other room existing..Lol have fun.
