I Just Moved Into A One Bedroom. The Only Heat Available Is A Fireplace. Is This Allowed In Ca?
My mother alarmed me when I told her that I do not have a heating unit. The landlord told me that I would have to get an electric one. Is this legal?

unfortunately, yes if you knew that was the only source. check your lease agreement and see if it is written in that way. if it is and you signed it, it is a legal binding document and he or she will win if you try to take them to court.

I expect that it’s legal. As long as the building is safe, clean, and up to code, the owner is under no obligation to provide heat or air conditioning.
