Ok-from my experience living in the city, and out in the country -with different people in different places-sort of in-the planning stage of where to move to and live with pocket book consideration versus comfortbility-here's my own evaluation and opinion-considering I hate extreme heat and cold!BUT-I like it nice n warm,in winter, and cool inside during summer!I'm an electrical contractor, that has worked and trained with pge for accessing peoples homes(at their request )and doing work for conservation of energy in their homes.Ok ,now-with that said-here is my opinion only based on my experiences.!My garbage newer home in small town,in Calif.-(15yrs old)Ran a winter one month only-p.g.&e bill...to a tune of...$800.00! Here's what I summed up for the high bill-I had purchased a natural gas fired insert, with a blower on it-once I get more money saved up-I'm gunna hire a hit man to go thank the inventor of that!Comfortablebly warm-in the same room only-living room! The rest of the house didnt get heat circulated-at all it seemed! a glass window on the insert-pretty dang nice-but terribly inefficient-we went back to the central heating and air furnace the home came with, and underrated for our 2-story home-but heated the whole house in every room, and was less than half the p.g.e.bill comparably!Sad! OK -yea,baseboard heaters-see how much you can get for them-at the metal salvage yard!Terrible, and in my opinion, dangerous. Here's my best suggest-especially in the country-give the middle finger to the enviro-mental cases, get a good efficient wood burning stove-good dble pain windows and slider, seal around doors and everywhere you can-spray foam in crackes or caulking-solar attic fan/depending on heat in summer-whole house fan.If you ever replace siding use the foil lined sheets of plywood!I'm sure theres more, depending on your home and location-good luck!Oh yea-solar is the ticket-IF-you get enough sun through the year!Already mentioned my sources

Any type of electric heater will raise your electric bill. But, we wanted to cut down on having to use so much oil. My husband purchased an Eden Pure heater. We heard so much about them from a few neighbors that have them. My house is the type that you only felt warm as long as the furnace was running. I had to bundle up with sweaters and socks every winter to be comfortable. Since we got our Eden Pure, I wear short sleeves, no socks. It makes the house perfect. My living room, dining room and kitchen and breakfast nook are all fairly open. These areas heat real well. And, in the bedrooms we have electric baseboard heaters because we always had them. We only have them running at night a bit so we don't freeze. And, I want to purchase an Eden Pure, room size heater for the master. Now, I have the Eden Pure for the areas I've mentioned and two baseboard heaters running in bedrooms and my electric bill went up about $90 a month.....however, we only used 1/2 tank of oil all year last year, where before, we were getting a tank a month at OVER $300 a month. So, yes, our electric bill did go up, but, we still saved a bundle on fuel last winter. Now, let me add this. Since we got the Eden Pure, quite a few of our friends were so impressed that they got one. However, my brother-in-law sent his back because the way in which his house is laid out, he felt no benefit from it. They allow you a nice amount of time to try it. If you're not satisfied, they will take it back, no questions asked. There's a 3 year warranty on it, and alot of times, they give discounts in certain articles for them. I believe we paid somewhere around $375-$395 for ours. Not sure which it was. But, what it saved us in oil last winter, it pays for itself. I can't say enough about them. They are fabulous. They're quiet. I have it in the living room and it doesn't interfere with our hearing the TV, etc. It's safe if you have children or pets. Get on line and read up about them.. Like I said, our electric bill has gone up, but, less than a third of what we shelled out for oil. Order one and give it a try for your main living areas. Again, if you don't like it, just send it back. I just ordered their company's air purifier. Hasn't come yet. But, if it's anything like their heater, I'll be very pleased. If not, I'll simply send it back! Give it a try! Compared to the baseboard ones we use, it's great.

aww man lol we have baseboard heat too- with huge windows and an older than dirt boiler that's stuck together with gum! my best advice is to look into getting a blower insert for your fireplace, covering your windows with the winterizing kits and keeping your house thermostat set to at least 65. the baseboard water heating idea on the whole is less expensive than a furnace but its dependent on your boiler or water heater. have it checked for leaks. even the tiniest leak could end up costing you more than using your electric heater.
