Stainless Steel Cleaner. Cost a few bucks and can be purchased almost anywhere. You can use a microfiber cleaning cloth if you’re concerned about surface scratches, but it’s stainless steel. Very hard metal. You can just hit it with a clean cloth and stainless steel and you’ll be good to go.

what your cleaning off is dust and such that has gotten into the air intake of the unit. It is now burned shut. You clean it with vinegar and water and a sponge and then rinse out the sponge in a pail of clean water and then back into the mixture and clean again.
repeat a few times and you have it done. Then wipe it clean with a damp paper towel and then polish it so you leave no streaks, just like a good mirror.
have fun and enjoy the no sponge of heat. We have one electrical and one gas on the main floor in our home.
