Electric Fireplace Keeps Shutting Off?
I have a charmglow 23in electric fireplace. Everything works fine but the heat. It powers up fine, fake flames work, it has a turn knob to set the temperature, but when I push the HEAT switch to ON, you can hear the heater working and see the heating coils turn red but within 15 – 20 seconds you hear a loud click noise and the coils turn off and no heat is produced. Does anyone know what this could be and what parts I might need to repair this. Thank you very much in advance.

It is probably drawing too much current and is shutting down to keep from starting a fire or burning wiring up. Peace.

The loud click could be an internal circuit breaker. You’d need a multimeter to verify how much power the unit is drawing, to see if it is trying to draw more amps than the circuit is designed for. Just a quick question – do you know if this unit is designed to run on a 15 amp circuit? And there shouldn’t be any extension cords, or anything else on the circuit, at the same time.
This could also be a problem with an internal thermostat/switch. Which means you need an electrical schematic of the unit, and know how to troubleshoot it.
I’d recommend first checking the requirements of the unit (if this is a new unit, you can find it on the packaging), these can also be found on a data-plate, usually on the back of the unit. If all else fails, check the manufacturer’s website – they may even have a troubleshooting guide, or a list of authorized service providers.
Good Luck

it probably has a limit switch going bad, they will, overload and shut off til it resets or cools down,if you feel you can repair it open it up and look for a round disk with 2 wires going to it,it will say some where on it what temp. it opens and closes at,you can find them at any heating supply warehouse or sears if you have one near,if there is more than one go ahead and replace the all they’re not expensive at all to replace,if there is a place that sells that fireplace in your town you can try them also, good luck

Could be a number of things, just sorted out a similar problem with my boiler last night.
Have you checked the fuse to see it’s the correct ampage.
Have you checked that the wiring is correct, a lose wiring will trip the circuit.
The circuit breaker may be faulty but unlikely as it’s doing the job it was installed to do.
If you’ve checked the above the last thing I’d do is check the manufacturers manual for any further trouble shooting/faq’s.
If all else fails a drink for an sparky friend looks wanting.
Good luck.
