Buying Electric Fireplaces

Electric Fireplace Advise Needed?

Hi there. I am looking to get an electric fireplace for use in my berdoom. I live in Mass so winters get chilly in my cathedral ceiling pretty big bedroom (it also has a loft in it). I try and save $$ by keeping my gas heat of at night- but I am thinking of having an eletric fireplace (plug in) to take the frost off my toes. I just need some warmth not 100% heating for upstairs. Anyone buy one recently? Any advise?

It is expensive but if you turn the furnace down a little 64-65 F and only heat the bedroom with the supplemental electric heat you should see some savings especially since gas has gotten so expensive.
call the gas company and ask what the price per therm (100,000 btu) is then find what you pay for electric per KW hour; a therm in electrical resistance heat is approximately 29.3 kwh and compare.
