But, my house is over 100 years old, and we have a chimney that leads to a small hole in the wall in the basement, where they would feed coal into it to keep the house warm. So, with the fake fireplace, and the chimney on the roof, they might not allways match up. They do surprisingly enough heat the house very well, and in the chicago winters we always have toasty toes. They don't raise the bill anymore then a conventual heater would, but it depends on if you leave it on all winter long, and what kind of electric fireplace you buy.
