My Roommate Thinks That We Got A Bad Deal On Our Apartment…do You Agree?

My roommate is my boyfriends brother and i have been arguing with him for the whole month and a half that we have lived in our apartment, whether or not what we got was a good deal, and i really would like to know what other people from all over think about it?!?!?!
It is a
- 2+Bed
- 2+Bath
- Walk in closets
- 1,300ft2
- Wood burning fireplace
- Patio/Balcony
- ALL brand new appliances
- Brand new paint
- Brand new washer and dryer(and very high tech, we are talking an $800+ washing machine)
- Cable included(free the whole time)
– ALL utilities included
-Water
-Heat
-Electric
-Sewage
– Trash
-10 day late policy(in other words if our rent is late we have 10 days to get it to our land lord and there are no late fees or anything of the sort) and for all this he pays….
$283.50/month
(we each do) in total our rent for 3 people is $850/month!
now i really would like to have anyone say that’s a bad deal! i mean come on…especially in today’s economy that’s frickin’ awesome if you ask me! i know people who would kill to be able to live for less than $500 a month and he lives with rent, groceries, and utilities for less than $400/month!
Now honestly i really could care less what he thinks, but its just an insult to me because i found this place and my boyfriend and i both don’t have a car and my boyfriends brother does, my boyfriend was in jail at the time that i was looking for apartments, i was kicked out of 5 different places when this all happened and while working, and school, as well as making sure my boyfriends “rent” for jail was getting paid, taking care of finances…yada yada yada, i went all over town on the bus looking at place after place, and he helped me out maybe twice in 5 months of looking for a place for all of us! so normally i wouldn’t care what he has to say but this is really pushing all the right buttons since i put so much work, energy, and stress into this and i never once got a thanks, just a…this sucks, we could have gotten a better deal!
so ultimately i would like to prove to him that i am not crazy for thinking that this is an awesome deal and that hes just retarded for thinking otherwise!:P

I rented a house 8 months ago. I rented it sight unseen because I was living in another state. I was told when I got her there would be new carpeting, which there was not. Since, there was electrical problems. There was only electric in one room. It took the landlord 6 tries and 1 mo to fix it. Theres trees growing in my fireplace, a rat living in my bathroom, two holes in the floor in my daughters room, black widows all over, and a water bill that I have to pay every month that is in his name and he refuses to send me a copy. I have to drive 30 miles every mo to go pick up the bill in his name because I cant get the bill in my name because he has a bad debt. Its just awful and he owns lots of properties. I am sure he knows the law better than I do. What can I do? I’m miserable. Thanks

How Do I Heat Up My Very Cold Rented Room, Using Minimal Energy?

I live in a Californian Bungalow in Melbourne, Australia – tall ceilings, the walls are made of wood, I have a fireplace in my room, and there are gaps between the skirting boards and the floor. I have stuffed my with fabric, I have good curtains, and there are no noticeable drafts, but my room has been getting down to 10 degrees, and it’s only April.
I am a gung-ho environmentalist (turn things off at the wall, am committed to no air travel, etc) so I HATE the idea of using an electric heater, but I’m not sure what I can do instead. Normally, I don’t ever put on a heater, but this house is different. I have been wearing thermal underware, but now I’m thinking I need a polypropylene body suit, with only space for my mouth and nose, it’s completely ridiculous!!
I think the main reason it’s so cold is that there’s barely any insulation. As a renter, I can’t do anything about that. Does anyone know what would be the most effective and efficient was of dealing with this? (Note: I am prepared to get a gas bottle and bring in some kind of a gas heater, if need be.)

OK, my bedroom has : a bed, a fireplace, a sofa, a wardrobe and a desk. Its all dark brown and the wall papers white. How more boring can it be? I’ve had my bedroom like this for 7 years and i’m really bored and grown out of it! I really want to change it! I need 2 keep it in the same place because of the lights in the ceiling and electric sockets. Please send links of any good items i can buy (not too expensive though) to make it look great!

De-greasing Cast Iron Grill?

I have a heavy cast iron grill (one of those Le Creuset things which you put over your electric cooker plate) which I subject to intense use.
I can never get it to its pristine state. I have tried with the usual dishwasher cycle but the result is only partial; I have also tried to keep the grill surface submerged in a mixture of hot water and dish washing soap for a couple of days but whilst the result is better, it is still not what I wished.
I do not have a fireplace/open flame so I cannot try with flame either.
Are there any more aggressive methods of degreasing the grill which I could use?

Older Cat Chilly In This Fall Weather..?

I have 3 indoor kitties, one is older (around 13yrs). Shes in great health and very active although in this cooler weather i find her always curled up looking chilly so ive been leaving a heating pad on medium heat out for her with a blanket over it, she LOVES it and often all 3 of them share it by the fireplace. At night, i leave it on the pillow next to me for bedtime, where she always sleeps. It is electric obviously, and i keep an eye on it (its unplugged whenever i leave). It seems to make a big difference for her, so im sure lots of older cats in this cool weather would enjoy it Does anyone know of any problems with doing this? Thanks.

How To Maintain Heat With Vaulted Ceilings?

My entire downstairs of my house is open and has vaulted ceilings. It always seems cold in here unless I really get my wood fireplace blazin. I have got the fan adjusted to blow air down, and the vents for the heat are way up on the cealings. Their is a large double window in the living room, one window in the kitchen, and a sliding glass door off the back of the house. I have to find ways to keep heat in this big area, my electric bills in the winter are out of control! Thanks for your help! Oh…also the front door to the house opens to the entire area, so that creates a loss of heat everytime it is open. But even through the night, in the mornings the entire area feels cold despite the thermostat set at 70. Thanks!

Seizure Or Not? Fear Response Perhaps?

Alright the other day my dog (Terrier/Chi mix) had what I thought was a seizure. She has had other small episodes. Now we aren’t so sure they are seizures after my husband has witnessed these. She has these episodes we will call them. Everytime I try to cook something with the toaster, the microwave, or the oven. She is fine with the stove. This has been going on for over a week. vet isn’t sure they are seizures either, ofcourse he hasn’t witnessed them.
I have filmed one for future reference when I start the oven or toaster, she starts trembling like she is cold. And she just trembles for awhile. A lot of the time she ends up in my lap just trembling and I just talk to her. I’ll admit she is a skittish dog but a very good dog, very kind.
I’m wondering if maybe the toaster, microwave, or oven is setting off some kind of a smell that is triggering a fear response. The vet also mentioned being mixed with Chihuahua that chihuahuas shake and shiver a lot.
But seeing a dog of her size trembling like a chihuahua is kind of weird.
Anyways a few months back the people in the apartment above started their fireplace and the flew (i think that is what it is called) wasn’t open and the smoke backed up into our apartment. If we had not gotten home when we did and got those dogs out, both dogs would have suffocated. Smoke detector was an electric smoke detector and it never went off. Our apartment was full of smoke. We had to leave for the night.
I’m wondering since I’m not that great of a cook and I tend to burn things, I’m still learning. If she is thinking the smell is the apartment filling up with smoke again. So when she sees me use one of those items she gets that sudden fear and starts trembling.
Then again it could be seizures but its weird that they only happen when I cook. When my husband cooks it doesn’t happen. She has only done this once when my husband was home and we were doing an experiment with the toaster and she sure enough started up.
Again she is completely lucid and she walks around. She walks around all submissive like, ears back almost looking like she is in trouble and she just trembles and tries to hide or get close to us our our other dog and snuggle as close as possible and she just trembles.
Vet and us both are skeptical if these are seizures or not. Because it doesn’t sound like a typical seizure
I’m trying to get a video to upload of her episode but its going to take some time. I may ask again when the video comes up.
